Where is the best (public) place to read a book in the Bay Area?
Any open grassy area in SF like Golden Gate Park (the botanical gardens are pretty great for this as well) and Dolores Park or if it happens to be a clear, calm day, Baker Beach or Crissy Fields are also nice spots to relax with a book.
In Berkeley, the campus (as mentioned above) is wonderful — Memorial Glade specifically or the grassy area in front of the VLSB (Valley Life Sciences Building) was one of my all time favorite spots. Additionally, Strada Cafe on Bancroft and College offers outdoor seating which is perfect for sipping a coffee and enjoying a book (I can’t count the number of afternoons I spent there in between classes!). If you’re off campus, there’s an adorable park called Willard Park on Derby and Hillegass (right by the Andronico’s on Telegraph) and again, if it’s a clear, non-windy day, the Berkeley Marina is always mesmerizing 🙂
